Easy DIY Tutu

These Tutu's are so much fun to make! I made two of these for my nieces for Valentine's Day and only spent about $8.00.

Materials Needed: Yarn, hook, tulle, and ribbon.

The first thing I did was crochet myself a little belt. I can't crochet to save my life but I figure the nieces won't criticize the shotty job.  I made my belt about 2 inches wide and about 22 inches long. They don't have much give in them when they are finished and I wanted to make sure that it would fit around my niece's 19 inch waist.

I cut my tulle in lenghts of 6inches wide by 30 inches long so that when I was finished the length of my tutu would be 15 inches.

I folded one piece of tulle in half and pulled it up through the front of the yarn belt about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom. I then brought the loose ends up through the loop and made a knot. This is the view from what will be the inside.

I alternated my colors all the way across the belt.  When I finished adding all my pieces, I took an extra piece of yarn and tied the two ends of the belt together. I added one more piece of tulle at the seam and then I went through and randomly added 25 inch lengths of ribbon throughout. I tied a bow in the front and Voila! I had a super cute, easy tutu.

create your own sock snowmen!

These little snow guys/gals are super easy to build and make great gifts for the holidays!

Materials needed: White tube socks
                            Rice or beans
Ankle socks with cute designs - can pick some up for $1 at Target
                            Twine
                            Buttons
                            Felt
Hot glue gun and 1 glue stick

Step 1 - Take the tube sock and cut the foot part off and toss in trash. Turn leg part of the sock inside out and tie one end of it tightly with some of the twine. After your end is tied turn the sock back inside right and fill it full with rice or beans. I used rice in mine and filled it super full so I would have fat snow people! Once you have it filled up tie the top of the sock securely with some twine.

Step 2 -  Take your pair of design socks and with one cut off the heel and toe, this is what you are going to use as his clothes. The other sock you want to cut it off towards the middle of the foot and use the toe part for the hat.

Step 3 - Take the sock you cut out for the clothes and put it on your snow man. Take twine and tie it tightly at the top of the sock. The tighther you can get it the better.  If you want you can tie a second string at the bottom like I did on the pink one I made. If you choose not to tie a second string you can decorate the bottom portion with felt in any design you like. I used a flower with a button center on one and a heart on another. You can also decortate his belly with buttons if you choose.

Step 4 - Place the other cut sock on his head covering up the tie you made. I was afraid his hat might fall off so I hot glued it down. I also tied some twine at the toe end of the sock so that it didnt look to much like a sock. You can also add a button or felt to your hat if want. I just left mine in a simple bow.

Step 5 - Glue on some googly eyes and a felt nose and your snow people are complete!
